Surfing has always been a passion of mine. It is a way to connect with the ocean and push myself to new limits. I find solace in the ebb and flow of the tides. The rush of paddling out, the anticipation as you wait for the perfect wave, and that indescribable feeling when you finally ride one – it’s pure freedom. Over the years, I have had the privilege of chasing waves across the United States. In this blog post I will discuss the best destinations for surfing in the USA.

Malibu, California

When surfers think of surfing in the USA, they imagine Malibu as their surfing destination first. There are many reasons to choose Malibu as a destination for surfing in the US. California has nice surfing culture with long, rolling point breaks that seem eternal. I have had some of my most memorable surf sessions here, especially at Surfrider Beach.

Surfrider Beach is famous for its right-hand point break that is ideal for longboarders. Surfers of all ages and skills levels love this place for its gentle waves that are important for a smooth and consistent ride. I remember my first time surfing here. The sun was setting leaving a golden glow over the horizon and creating a surreal beauty. I promise Malibu will not disappoint you if you go surfing there.

North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii

No list of the best surf spots in the US would be complete without mentioning Hawaii’s legendary North Shore. This stretch of coastline is where the world’s top surfers come to test their skills against some of the most powerful waves on the planet. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you’re up for the challenge, it’s an experience like no other.

You cannot complete your list of the best surfing in the US without including the legendary north shore of Hawaii. Top surfers from around the world come here to test their skills against some of the most powerful waves on the planet. Your heart will pound heavily, and you will face challenges surfing here but you will experience a thrilling adventure of a lifetime.

My trip to the North Shore was hilarious. I had seen many videos of surfing in Hawaii, but nothing could prepare me for the size of the waves. Surfing here requires not only skill but also courage. When I started paddling, my heart was pounding in my chest as I felt the energy of the water. But when I made it out, I was very excited. This thrill is indescribable.

If you are not ready to tackle the massive winter waves, try to go during the summer months. You will find more approachable waves then.

Trestles, California

Trestles is a popular surfing destination in California for both experienced surfers and amateurs alike. Surfers of all skill levels can enjoy surfing here. On the other hand, Upper Trestles is perfect for longboarders. Every time I come to surf here, I feel I am part of something bigger.

If you like big waves for your surfing adventure, Mavericks is the best place for you. Mavericks is located just outside the Half Moon Bay. It is famous for its massive waves that can reach up to 50-60 feet in height during the winter months. You will only understand the power of the ocean at Mavericks if you go there. I personally recommend that beginners not to go there for surfing. Experienced surfers can enjoy this kind of big waves.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Though California and Hawaii are famous for surfing in the USA, Virginia is one of my favorite places to surf on the Atlantic Coast. You will find consistent waves, and a welcoming surf community here that will give you a sense of pleasure. The waves at Virginia Beach are not as big as those on the West Coast. But they are perfect for longboarding. If you love to surf along with a beach vibe, Virginia Beach is the best choice for you.

Outer Banks, North Carolina

The Outer Banks of North Carolina are another top location for surfing in the USA. Cape Hatteras is the most popular place for surfing in the Outer Banks area. The waves are very mighty here. During the hurricane season, they become pretty big and more powerful. You cannot hide your excitement and nervousness that comes with surfing in unpredictable conditions. I recommend this place for your next surfing adventure in the United States.

Santa Cruz, California

Santa Cruz has a special place in my heart. It is the place where I love to surf the most. This place has a very strong surf culture that makes you feel good. Santa Cruz has produced some of the best surfing genius in the world. Steamer Lane is the most popular surf spot in Santa Cruz. The waves here are challenging. I have had some of my best surfing rides at Steamer Lane. It is a magical place for surfing lovers. The place is a bit crowded, so keep patience.

If you are a beginner surfer, Cowell’s beach is perfect for you. The waves here are smaller. This type of waves is suitable for longboarders.

Cocoa Beach, Florida

Cocoa Beach is one of the most prominent destination for surfing in the USA.  Although this place is not as well-known as California or Hawaii, but it offers consistent waves that are perfect for longboarders and beginners. I have spent countless afternoons here, just cruising along the soft, rolling waves. Lori Wilson Park is my favorite spot to paddle out. The waves here are mellow but perfect for long and slow rides that let you soak in the beauty of the beach.

San Diego, California

San Diego has some of the best surf spots in the US. From beginner-friendly beach breaks to more advanced reef breaks, this city has it all. One of my favorite spots in San Diego is La Jolla Shores. The waves here are gentle and perfect for beginners. The beach is an ideal place for a relaxing surf session. For more experienced surfers, Black’s Beach is a must-visit. The waves here can get big and powerful. You will get a feeling of adventure here.

Rockaway Beach is a unique surfing destination that combines the thrill of the waves with the energy of New York City. You can easily go there via ferry. Rockaway Beach offers a coastal escape for urban dwellers and travelers alike. Rockaway attracts surfers of all skill levels. Beginners can enjoy smaller waves near Beach 90th Street, while more experienced surfers gravitate toward Beach 92nd and Beach 67th.
